A few years ago, on my way out of Dallas after an interview, I made a stop at the Neiman's Last Call. It just happened to be having a special on it's already-discounted furs, and that was all the reason I needed to buy my first fur. My purchase, a black, hip-length rabbit fur vest (that looked a lot like this) quickly became my favorite winter piece, despite the fact I rarely got to wear it in Austin (because winter is kind of a joke in Texas).
Since moving to Denver, where we have real winters with bitter-cold temperatures and plenty of snow, my collection is growing as steadily as my love for fur. The choice to wear fur ruffles some feathers, but it makes others feel warm and fuzzy. To each his own. I hate being cold as much as I love style, so...fur's fur me.
I'm biased toward fur vests because they're ideal layering pieces - they're great thrown on over a basic tee when there's a chill in the air, and they're even better when it's so cold that just walking to your car makes your eyes water. With a black one and a natural one in my closet, I didn't think I'd need another.
But then I found this stunning emerald vest from Jocelyn. I couldn't resist. I have long since realized that my very favorite pieces are those that combine timeless appeal with the hint of a trend, and this vest is the epitome of that aesthetic. There is no denying that emerald is the color of the season, but the classic shape of the vest ensures it will stand stand the test of time.
The richness of the color...the softness of the fur...the thoughtful construction (which includes details like hidden closure-hooks and velvet-lined pockets)... It's every bit of luxury and glamour you'd could ever hope to find in your next winter wardrobe favorite.
