One of the best things about fall is that you get to layer because it's fun instead out of pure frozen necessity. Since it's not all that cold yet, you can layer in a way that shows each piece off, rather than being forced to cover up all your efforts with a coat.
Another great thing is that flannel is back. I love flannel for two reasons. First, it's just so soft. Something about all that softness just inspires me to do something casual and wholesome, like curl up with good book and a cup of coffee, pick apples on a crisp day, or carve pumpkins with kids (even though I don't actually know any...). The second reason I love flannel is that it's most often a plaid, and the combination of colors provides some creative space for mixing and matching and highlighting an accent color.
I absolutely love the bold blue color of this vest by Coatology. But because it's so bright, it could easily takeover the whole look. By pairing it with a flannel from the same color family, the softness of the material and the darker blues of the shirt blend with the vest to take everything down a notch. Wedge sneakers round out the casual and comfortable weekend look.
